Although this is quite an old article, it is still very interesting. It is about a college professor, Steven Hofmann, at the the University of Missouri-Columbia. And how he solved a 40 year old math problem that none of his colleagues could solve. He said that he would think about the problem night and day and sometimes have to stop what he was doing to write down an idea on how to solve it. The name of the problem was Kato's Conjecture, named after Tosio Kato. He wrote it in 1953 and again in 1961. "The problem, known as Kato's Conjecture, applies to the theory of waves moving through different media, such as seismic waves traveling through different types of rock".
